She stood in the storm, and when the wind did not blow her way, she adjusted her sails.
– Elizabeth Edwards
I had this quote as my screen saver for years and I always thought it said ‘she stood in the storm, and when the wind did not blow her AWAY, she adjusted her sails.’ Such a small difference in one way – just one letter!!
It was my mantra as I navigated a challenging and changeable period of my life and it reminded me to be thankful for the winds of change and challenge – and I can tell you there were many times when I wanted to put my sails away, retrace my steps and hide in the comfort of what I knew!
Whichever way you read it, this quote reminds me that my capacity is above and beyond anything my mind wants to tell me.
It reminds me to welcome the winds of change and all the unsettledness because it leads to growth and knowledge of that within me which is not ever disturbed or tipped upside down.
A reminder that the twists and turns, the ups and downs were all my doing. Opportunities to grow and to challenge our perspective.
As the winds blows wild outside I hope you see your brilliance and strength today. That you can take time (right way up or upside down) to acknowledge the good in your world right now, and most importantly, that you can include yourself in that list.
